 What is biodiversity?

Biodiversity, short for biological diversity, is the variety of life which inhabits planet Earth. it is every species of plant, animal, fungi and microbe, their genetic variation and the habitats upon which all living things depend. It encompasses the whole of the natural work not just the rare or endangered and includes people. Biodiversity is a key component of life, and it provides every person with all the services they need to survive. Without biodiversity, humans could not survive, and it has a major part to play in mitigating against and adapting to climate change, be it man made or natural.
